I'm in Girl Scouts and our troop hosted a fashion show for Haiti Relief and to get our Silver Award. After the show, our leader asked me to write an article that she could send to various local newspapers. And guess what? I'm officially a published journalist. I don't know all the details, but I'll let you know more when I can! It's all very exciting. I can see a Pulitzer in my future.

Halt's Peril
7/6/10
The Ranger's Apprentice phenomenon continues with book 9: Halt's Peril. Released October 5th, 2010! I know I'm excited. Are you excited? Well you should be. Author John Flanagan creates a new, fantastic world for characters Will, Halt, Alyss, Crowley, etc, etc, and hopefully we'll get to see more romance with some characters as they grow up... Last time we witnessed a bit of interest between Jenny and Gilan, so maybe that will be in there as well, and everyone loves Halt. The title suggests we might be going through some stuff with Halt this time around.
Anyway, I strongly encourage fans of Harry Potter and Percy Jackson to read these books if you haven't already started them, and look forward to the newest installment!

Editing and More
7/3/10
An amazing friend of mine has declared herself my editor because she just recently checked out my site in depth and decided I needed one! So, she'll be taking care of stuff for me, so look out for when/if I start editing some more. I've been trying to be my own editor but it's just not the same as fresh eyes, ya know? Anyway, Abby will be taking care of proofreading and stuff. I have an editor! :D
I'm also working on cover art for King of Hearts and Thoughts this Monday with a photographer and some friends of mine, so stay tuned for those upcoming pics.

Vladimir Tod

(Picture and italicized text from Heather Brewer's website above)
It all comes down to this.
Vlad’s running out of time. The Elysian Council has given him weeks to live, and that’s if the Slayer Society doesn’t kill him – along with all the citizens of Bathory – first. Then there’s the issue of Vlad’s father, who may or may not still be alive after all these years, and oh yeah, that tiny little detail in the Pravus prophecy about Vlad enslaving Vampirekind and the human race. So much for college applications.
In this epic finale to Heather Brewer’s heart-stopping Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, dark secrets will be revealed, old friends will become enemies, and warm blood will run cold. Just be careful it isn’t yours.
Ever since his 8th grade year, we've been following Vlad's life. From Henry to Meredith, to The Elysian Council and the Slayer Society, as well as Henry's cousin, Joss, and Dorian, and his hometown of Bathory, and whether or not he might be the Pravus from the prophecy. Not to mention the romance between Otis and Nelly. But I don't think the final installment of this great series, "Twelfth Grade Kills" which is coming out September 21st, 2010, is going to be all fun and games. The last couple books have paired blood with romance, need with violence, jealousy with friendship, and there has always been a counterpart to every bad thing that happens. Vlad's had Nelly and Otis and Henry to help him, along with Vikas and Snow, now, but as he's facing his execution, he needs all the help he can get. And then there's that question... Is his dad still alive? And if he is, doesn't being around Vlad put him in danger of dying?
Heather Brewer says she doesn't believe in happy endings. So, here's my prediction: Otis dies. Vlad's dad, if he's still alive that is, dies. I don't think Meredith and Vlad will end up together. I don't know if Henry will make it. Snow will be used as Vlad's blood source at least once more. Nelly and Otis, if they both survive that is, will probably end up having to not be together. I see in this book a great, thrilling, incredible story that will make readers everywhere bloodthirsty and excited, but I don't see a happy ending. Am I saddened by that? Not even a bit. I trust Heather Brewer with her characters and I think it's safe to say I'll be devouring this book like Vlad wants to devour Snow. Quickly and hungrily.

Return to Paradise
7/1/10
The book "Leaving Paradise" by Simone Elkeles was ultimately a book that tugged on heart strings, made you want to keep turning pages and...yadda, yadda, yadda. Read my review here if you wanna hear about the first book. But this is about the 2nd.
I read the first book a couple weeks ago because it just looked interesting, and I trusted that any Elkeles book I picked up would be good. And, if you've read my review of "Leaving Paradise" you would see that it was. It ended with a cliffhanger that emotionally connected me to the characters and I wanted to know how they were going to figure out their conflict and get back together even though they were both so scarred with the past months of their lives. Caleb left Paradise while Maggie decided to tough it out before leaving for Spain, but will they meet up again? Can they renew their "love"? And how will things go with Caleb's sister now that Maggie knows her secret?
I encourage readers to check out "Leaving Paradise" and look forward to "Return to Paradise," which is coming out in September of this year! I don't know what it will entail, or even if I'll like it as much as the first one, but it's sure to be good.

Rick Riordon
6/28/10
According to an email from the Borders website, Rick Riordan, the author of The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, is writing a new Olympians series. This one is entitled, "The Heroes of Olympus," and the first book is called "The Lost Hero." It's going to be released in October--ack, so far away!!!!--and I'm sure will be just as popular as the author's other Olympian series.
You can read the first two chapters of this incredible new book and pre-order it like I did here: http://www.borders.com/online/store/ArticleView_losthero?cmpid=SA_20100621_1
This incredible author has also started a new series on Egyptian Mythology called "The Kane Chronicles." I did read the first book, "The Red Pyramid" and found that it definitely was not as good as the Olympian books. However, Riordan did play with the actual myths and make them so real and exciting, like he did with Percy Jackson. I do really love Riordan's writing, so I will be keeping up with this series and looking forward to "The Lost Hero."
